The 2011 Prometheus Awards

2011 Prometheus AwardsLast night, we attended the 2011 Prometheus Awards, an annual event put on by the Technology Association of Iowa recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of high-tech companies throughout the state.

We were extremely honored to have been named one of three finalists in the highly competitive "IT Service Provider of the Year" category.

While we came up short in the final tally, we feel great about having made it as far as we did and our sincerest congratulations go out to the winner in our category, Alliance Technologies, a full-service technology provider in Des Moines.

Prometheus is one of our favorite events because it brings together so many people—over 600 last night, as I understand it—in the tech scene from all over the state and showcases the incredibly innovative products and services they're building and/or supporting. I was amazed, once again, at the number and quality of the companies highlighted.

There was such great energy in that room last night. From the amazing Flying Monkeys, a group of 6th and 7th grade Girl Scouts from Ames who created a prosthetic hand to help a fingerless 3-year-old girl, to the larger, established tech companies continuing to innovate to serve their customers and the world, to startup companies like Dwolla, who are pushing the envelope of what we think is possible, it was really phenomenal to see.

All of this is happening in our state and we should be extremely proud of them and thankful for efforts to not only build their businesses and provide good, well-paying jobs here, but for putting it all out there and changing the world for the better. We've met so many smart, talented, interesting, helpful people since starting Far Reach and among those people are LeAnn Jacobson and Jennifer O'Connor of TAI. As far as I'm concerned LeAnn and Jennifer are TAI. They both work tirelessly on behalf of the IT industry in Iowa and we want them to know how much we appreciate their efforts. They are amazing and a real asset to those trying to make a living in IT. Thank you both!

We're already busy working toward next year when we hope to be back in the program as a finalist for Prometheus 2012. Until then, stay tuned! Below is the video played when Far Reach was introduced as an IT Service Provider finalist. Enjoy!
