We’re looking for an experienced business development professional located in or around Cedar Falls, Des Moines, or Cedar Rapids/Iowa City who thrives in an agile, team-oriented environment to help us grow our business.

About You

You are a skilled and experienced business developer ready and able to acquire and manage new client relationships to help us grow our business and our profitability. You're curious, with a strong commitment to continuous learning; are intrinsically motivated to succeed; and you thrive under pressure, consistently rising to a challenge.

Strategic thinking and effective tactical execution are strengths. You are a good listener and an excellent verbal and written communicator with the ability to understand and translate complex concepts into simple explanations. You're a self-starter and a problem solver who can craft viable solutions to unique problems.

You have strong organizational skills; the ability to effectively manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines at a time; and the flexibility to adjust your schedule to meet the demands of the workload.

Finally, you believe in what we do and how we do it and are relationship—not transaction—focused.

About the Work

As Business Development Director, your job is to grow the business and our profitability through acquisition of the right work from new and existing clients, working closely with our production team to manage our queue of work.

You'll monitor industry trends, identify potential partnerships and market penetration opportunities, and make educated recommendations on the strategic direction of the company as part of our leadership team.

You'll develop a thorough understanding of our business, how we work, and the ways in which we add value for clients as well as maintain and execute on our business development strategy and own the end-to-end sales process, consisting of:

  • Creating and implementing strategies to build a strong funnel
  • Identifying new business contacts and opportunities, and assessing them for fit
  • Building relationships
  • Understanding prospect/client needs and goals
  • Crafting creative solutions
  • Writing and presenting proposals
  • Closing the right business
  • Maintaining pipeline relationships
You'll contribute to our marketing and messaging strategy, identify content needs, and contribute to content creation.

Some travel is required (your location may dictate how much).
