Summary of Silverlight at DevConnections

The Spring 2010 DevConnections conference has come to a close and I greatly enjoyed being part of the launch of Visual Studio 2010 and Silverlight 4. I thought I would share some of my highlights from the Silverlight portion of the event. The Silverlight keynote was excellent. Here is an excellent summary of the keynote Silverlight 4 Launch Notes by CrocusGirl. The presenters displayed intriguing demos and some of the new features of Silverlight.

A couple of things really caught my eye during the keynote.
  • The Ebay application presented by Dave Wolf of Cynergy.  The demo showed many features of Silverlight 4 including out of browser, utilize webcam to read barcodes, and using Blend for designing the UI.
  • A demo on Pivot was presented by Jay Girotto.  This demo received a great response from the audience and immediately got me thinking about how I was going to use Pivot.  I have already thought of at least 10 different ways to use it.  Check out www.getpivot.com to learn more about.  During a breakout session Jay said that this tool would be available at the end of June.
I attended several sessions focusing on Silverlight, including ones by Dan Whalin and Shawn Wildermuth.  Here are a few highlights from those sessions.  Look to their blogs for slides and source code from the sessions. One of my favorite parts of the conference was the opportunity to meet Dave Campbell (Microsoft MVP). It was great to visit with him and learn about Dave and SilverlightCream. Thanks, Dave!

I am looking forward to start using VS 2010 and Silverlight 4 in my projects and sharing my learnings via many blog posts. Until then, keep coding my friends.
