Summary of Day 1 at DevConnections

Today was day one of the DevConnections conference in Las Vegas. This is my first time attending this conference so I was not sure what to expect. So far I am enjoying the show. I had a few moments so I thought I would share my thoughts from day one.

Bob Muglia of Microsoft was the keynote speaker and talked about such things as Visual Studio 2010, Sharepoint 2010, and Windows Azure. Here are some highlights from his speech and the demos.
  • Visual Studio 2010 has some new features which developers will enjoy.  Here are a few that caught my eye.
    • View HTML markup and Design at the same time.
    • Multi-screen support so I can view code-behind file in a second monitor.
    • JQuery support built in.
    • Javascript Intellisense enhancements.
  • Sharepoint 2010.
    • You can now have Sharepoint 2010 development environment on your machine.
    • Developing Sharepoint controls is much like working with web controls.
    • Build and deploy process has been simplified.
  • Teamwork Tools.
    • Some new testing tools are now included, which includes helping track the steps in repeating bugs
    • Ability to go back and repeat bugs and test that changes fix the bug.
  • Windows Azure and Mobile Apps.
    • Improvements for development and deployment for mobile apps.
    • Improvements for working with Azure.
Overall the day was focused on VS 2010 and ASP.NET 4, which is all good. Day two is all about Silverlight for this guy and I am looking forward to it! Keep coding my friends.
